Who is behind PLANKA, where we come from — and why we will still be here in five years.
Who we are
PLANKA is built by PLANKA Software GmbH in Kempten im Allgäu. A German company with two managing directors, a shareholder and an address where somebody answers the phone.
We are not a spin-off from a corporation and not a side product next to something else. PLANKA is what we do.

Our Story
PLANKA was born from the need for a simple, self-hosted project management solution.
The Idea
We wanted to elegantly manage our projects with a tool that is easy to use, subtly showcases its powerful capabilities, and respects our data.
Community Driven
Developed transparently from day one, PLANKA thrives on an amazing community. Every feature is crafted with community input and feedback.
Growing Community
Today, PLANKA is used by tens of thousands of teams worldwide. Our community continues to grow, contributing ideas, translations, and improvements.

2019
First Commit
PLANKA Community project started with the first commit to solve real team collaboration challenges.

2021
Version 1.0
Community v1.0 launched with core Kanban features, real-time sync, and Docker support. Community growing steadily.

Pro Development
Development of PLANKA Pro begins. Community version reaches 2,000 GitHub stars with growing international recognition.

Going Viral
PLANKA Software GmbH founded and the Community explodes from 3,500 to 8,000 stars - reaching 5,000 in March alone!

Major Release
Community v2.0 and Pro Edition released. Now 11,000+ GitHub stars and 35+ languages supported.

Pro 2.5.0
PLANKA Pro goes mobile: full phone & tablet support, a new look with five themes, a personal dashboard and 25+ new features. Community 2.2.0 ships in parallel.

Three answers that together need no promise.
Paying customers
PLANKA Pro and Enterprise are sold, not given away. Development is paid for by licences — not by a funding round that eventually runs out.
A shareholder behind us
HBE Capital GmbH stands behind PLANKA Software GmbH as its shareholder. The company does not hang on a single good month.
And in the worst case
PLANKA runs on your servers and your data lives in your own PostgreSQL database. Export and the REST API are open to you at any time, and the source code of the Community edition sits on GitHub for anybody to read. If we were gone, your installation would keep running. That is not consolation, it is a property of the thing.
And the Community edition?
The Community edition is the free core of PLANKA: free of charge, under a Fair Use License and the reason this company exists at all. It stays free.
If you run PLANKA at home, in a homelab or for a club, you are in the right place here — just not in the sales pipeline. The community page says what that means.
